Lets us conque the world´s highest volcano on earth and just feel the emotion of hiking on the roof of Chile.

San José volcano has a broad 2 km x 0.5 km summit region with overlapping and nested craters, pyroclastic cones, and blocky lava flows. Historic activity recorded since 1822 consisted in mild phreatomagmatic ash eruptions.

Its settled in the heart of the Atacama Desert, among sandy grounds, salty lakes, esmerald lagoons and  you will be able to live this adventure, discovering the beauty of an untouched nature.

Our team of professional climbers and mountaineers garantuee a very save expedition and a very special ecperience.
Every person needs a period of acclimatization for this ascent.

Day 1: From Copiapó Airport  to your Hotel

We’ll pick you up from the airport in Copiapo and bring you directly to your Hotel,

where you meet your guides and talk through every details on the trek

and check on your equipment.

Day 2: From Copiapó to  Valle Chico

Transfer from our Hotel to Valle Chico (at 3000m), where we set our first camp.

Valle Chico has the perfect altitude for starting the acclimatization process.

Day 3: Valle Chico / Laguna Santa Rosa / Trekking

We drive a little higher to Laguna Santa Rosa, where we build our second camp and start

with our first acclimatization day/hike around Laguna Santa Rosa.

Day 4: Climb Mt 7 Hermanas and back to Laguna Santa Rosa
Acclimatization hike to Mt. 7 Hermanas at around 4.700mts / 15746 ft

and hike back to the camp 2 at Laguna Santa Rosa at 3700mts / 12140ft

Day 5: Laguna santa Rosa / Laguna Verde

Transfer to the Laguna Verde (4350m). On the way we can see the highest volcanoes of the world: Tres Cruces (6753m), Incahuasi (6621m) and Ojos del Salado (6893m) and camp close to the thermal baths.

Day 6: Hiking around Laguna Verde 

Acclimatization Hike around Laguna Verde and relax a little bit in the thermal baths after the hiking activity.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Box-Lunch, Dinner

Day 7: From Laguna Verde to Atacama Refuge
Last possibility to use the 4×4 to settle our base camp at Atacama Refuge. From now on we have to train harder.

Day 8: From Refuge Atacama  to Refuge Tejos  and back to Refuge Atacama

We have to carry our personal equipment plus a piece of the common equipment towards Refuge Tejos in order to prepare our last camp and it helps with our acclimatization process. Once we arrive at the shelter we will get some rest and hike back to the Refuge Atacama to get some sleep.

Day 9: From Refuge Atacama to Refuge Tejos 

This day we will bring the rest of our equipment up to the Refuge Tejos and stay the night there. It will be a light trek as we brought the main equipment the day before up to the Refuge Tejos.

Getting there we will get some rest and safe energies for the next day!

Day 10: Refuge Tejos and climb Ojos del Salado

A very challeging day. We will climb in 1 day over 1.000mts to reach the summit of the highest volcano. We will cross glaciers  adn do some rock climbing. Get up to the summit and the same day we go back down to Refuge Atacama in the very same day.

Day 11: Extra Summit Day

Security day for a possible second summit attempt

Day 13: Refuge Atacama 
This is the last day we’ll spend in the Parque Nevado de Tres Cruces area and get back to Copiapo.

Day 14: Refuge Atacama to Copiapo Hotel / Airport

Costs:

We offer this as a private service for a minimum of 4 interested climbers.

The cost per person is 2.100.000 Chilean Pesos / 3.250 USD  

The cost  includes, the following: 

  • Certified Mountain guide (Spanish / English )
  • Private transportation  (4×4).
  • High- Mountain tents
  • Cooking kit
  • Foam mattress
  • All food during the expedition (Breakfast, Box lunch, dinner)
  • First aids kit
  • Oximeter
  • VHF Radio
  • Satellite radio / Spot
  • All group equipment; rope, ice-screw, compass, stove, GPS, etc.

Our services doesn´t include the following:

  • Personal mountain equipment
  • Flights from Santiago to Copiapo
  • Medical insurance for Adventure Tourism/ High Mountain Expeditions. We strongly recommend you to get an extra insurance during your stay in Chile.
  • Other services not menionted above.
  • Climbing permit (around 200USD)
